Most characters changed drastically, but The Simpsons kept parts of their leads' first sketch. But as they try to escape, the hated character Poochie passes by, but he is run down by their car.
However, he discovers that listening to the inane chatter upsets and angers him. He even attempts to commit suicide by drinking a jar of disinfectant. Complaining to Moe and the other barflies, Homer realises that he cannot even look at the men in the bar without seeing everything that the women dislike about them. Eventually, after declaring that he can hear the hair growing around town, Homer styles Marge's hair for a party, and they pretend that Julio created the hairstyle instead. Julio is immediately surrounded by women demanding that he style them, too. Homer receives an evil hair transplant; Bart and Lisa get trapped in an Itchy and Scratchy cartoon; Maggie is revealed to be an alien.
Homer's exclamation at seeing Bart handling the formula scares Bart and causes him to spill the hair restorer. The next day, without it, Homer loses all his hair before the big meeting. At work, he's surprised to find Karl, who has written a series of notecards for Homer to help him with his speech. However, Homer tells Karl that without his hair, he won't be taken seriously. Karl energizes Homer with a pep-talk, explaining that all the things he did (the tartar sauce, the washroom key, drying Burns' hands) were the result of him, not the hair. Groening's current rendition of the family members is quite a departure from their initial look.
When the operation was a success while Homer was sleeping the Hair took control over him and starts to take revenge on the witnesses Moe, Apu, and Bart. He drowns Apu in a squishee machine, killing Apu, although not before explicitly referencing Apu's role in sending Snake to the Electric Chair to his face. When Homer was about to kill Bart with a sledgehammer, Homer managed to stop himself and took the hair off. Wiggum then quips that such is what he called a "bad hair day", much to almost everyone's amusement .
Homer tries a new hair growth formula — Dimoxinil — and wakes up with a full head of hair, which wins him a promotion at work. However, Homer's hair and success prove to be short-lived when it is revealed that he fraudulently charged the Dimoxinil to the company health plan. Homer didn’t go bald prematurely, as he has been shown with abundant hair in his teenage and young adult years, but the stress of life and looking after a family eventually took a toll on him. When Marge told him she was pregnant with Bart, Homer ripped out his hair in shock and fear, and he did the same when he learned about Lisa, so by the timeMarge was pregnant with Maggie, he was left with just three hairs.
